Welcome to the 3rd installment of the How To Start Extreme Couponing in 2013 series! In the last two days we’ve talked about why it’s important to have a lot of coupons & the best time to use a coupon…today we are going to talk about sales flyers!
There is nothing that gets my goat (<—grandma saying) more than when stores try to trick us into thinking something is a good deal because it’s on ‘sale’. Take a look at the two Mama Lucia Meatballs advertised in this weeks and next week’s Shaws sales flyers. This week the 12 oz boxes are on sale for $1.00 each ($.08/oz – GREAT deal!). Next week they will have the 38.4 oz box of Mama Lucia Meatballs for $5.00 ($.13/oz – NOT a great deal).
If I was a typical shopper and didn’t pay attention to the sales flyers, I would think “Wow, $5.00 must be a good price for those meatballs…because it’s on sale”. BUT, because I am an extreme couponer and study the sales flyers every week, I know that this actually isn’t a good deal, and I will wait for the next sale instead.
By keeping up with the sales flyers of the stores you shop at, you’ll start to see a pattern in how items are priced and when they come on sale. Having this knowledge can help you anticipate whether or not to buy or wait to buy on items you may need or want.

My peeve is when they have an item in the store marked with the special yellow sale tag below the item only to find out it’s for 2 cents less than the regular price.
